Old Grandma Hardcore

This blog is the chronicle of my experiences with Grandma, the video-game playing queen of her age-bracket and weight class. She will beat any PS2, XBox, GameCube, etc., console game put in front of her, just like she always has. These are her stories. She is absolutely real. She lives in Cleveland.

Norway!! Hva skjer?!

Grandma had a great mention today on Dagbladet.no, a fantastic online Norwegian newspaper. When I told Grandma the news it was the sort of reaction I expected: "Norway? Jesus! I've only seen pictures of Trondheim, it's gorgeous!"

I would say more about it, but- beklager, jeg snakker ikke norsk!

hey, I just saw the clip but I haven't seen the article in our paper because I never read that one but your grandmother seems awesome. Not like mine who like to go to weird old people festivals etc.

Are your grandmother going to get herself one Xbox 360? :P

Greetings from Norway..! Tell your grandmother it believe she's is great!

I can translate the article. Sorry for my bad english.

Grandma was great solving crosswords, until just recently. She had a vocabulary which could could beat the most. It was never specially fun to play scrabble with her, cause she always came up with words i never had heard about. Even thoug I`m a bad loser, was it always nice to play with her, like it supose to be when playing with grandmothers.
Thiomty St.Hilaire from clevland in the usa don`t play scrabble with his grandma. Caus she is to hardcore for that.
That where she got her nickname "Old Grandma Hardcore", which is also the name on the blogg to this bit speciall grandmother.
What is it that make her so hardcore, do you wonder? Yes, she plays computer games. And she most likely plays more games than you do and she also betther than you to.
Barbara St. Hilaire, which is what the 69 year old lady name is, has becomed a little media phenomena. Many has picket up her blogg, and MTV has now made a interview of what she does. Some of this interview has bin put out on the web to everyones pleasure.
It all started with innocent fun on the arcademachines. Now Grandma plays trough Gode Mode in "God of War" befoe breakfast.
Would you like to have a grandma like that? Or does it may be abit to, erhm, hardcore?

    Translation:

    The Worlds Coolest Grandmother
    ====================================
(I guess this is the journalist talking about himself) Grandma was good at solving crosswords, until recently. She had a vocabulary that was way over average - it was never especially fun playing scabble with her, sincee she always come up with words I've never heard of. Even if I'm a bad loser, it was still nice playing with her, which it's supposed to be with grandparents.

Timothy St. Hilaire from Cleveland in USA doubtly plays scrabble with his grandmother. She's way too hardcore for that.

Thereof the nickname Ols Grandma Hardcore, which also is the dedicated to the name of the blog to the somewhat special grandmother.

What is it that makes her so hardcore, you ask? She plays computer games. And she probably play games more often than you do - and she's better too.

Barbara St. Hilaire, which the 69 year old woman is named, has gradually became a little media-phenomenon. Many have read the blog about her, and MTV have recently made a [article/report?] about her. Some parts of this [article/report] have been published on internet for public pleasure.

It all started with some innocent pure fun on arcade back in time.

Would you had such a grandma? Or would it, possible, be a little, eh, too hardcore?

If you think Trondheim's gorgeous you'll love the rest of the country. Bergen and Oslo beats Trondheim when it comes to beauty any time, and not to mention the mountains in between.. :)

Thanks for the translations, you two!

Grandma would LOVE to visit Norway one of these days, but she's been on limited funds since she retired.

She WILL get an XBox 360... but it will take some time, and some saving! The beast is quite expensive.

you should set up a "get grandma to Norway" donation fund ;D kekkeek

i wish my grandmother was more open to new things :\

then again, it would be quite annoying to have my ass handed to me by her xD

    gl hf!
    keep the game alive!

  • At 11:49 PM, Blogger CtrlAltDelete said…

Not yet. As soon as CBS contacts us and lets us know the air date, or if I find out first by checking the "coming up" section on their site, I'll post it here for everybody so you can see Grandma on the television, as opposed to a computer screen :)

    Hi!

I'm also from Norway, not Trondheim, but Bergen, the second largest city. I would like to say that your grandma is one of a kind, and it puts a smile on my face.

All the best wishes to you and Old Grandma Hardcore. :)

Haha, what a grandmother. I'm also from Norway, and read the article at DB about five minutes ago.
I'm sure people will pay donations both for your grandmother to go to Norway and for her to get a new PS 360. Just create a fund of some sort.

Last I'd like to say that norwegian people have so little english skill it's embarassing. Yes, I know I'm no better than them. But tho'.

Hi. Cool grandma, thats me in 30 years from now. Only the male version :D
I'll play games as long as my health allows it :)

Granny should get sponsored by Sony/Microsoft and be in commercials.

Anyway, it's time to work sadly. And it's cold in Norway now :(

All the gamers in Trondheim welcomes you! Let us know if you are coming to town!

  • At 9:48 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

You know what you should do? You should start a big "help send my grandma to Trondheim" roll! AND, since you know like one sentence in norwegian, maybe, just maybe, she knows some more? Like maybe she is a runaway heir or something? :) Go to www.studentradion.no and click on "Streamer" and listen to the fabolous show "Ctr-alt-Del": a radioshow for everyone who enjoys gaming (in all forms). Tuesdays at ten at night. From, yep, you guessed it: Trondheim. I dunno how it works out with the timedifference and all, but on the stream the run reruns, so I reckon you'll figure it out.

Give your grandma a big and shoutout from all of us up here in the north!

if you take a close look on the last one you can see the german u-boat bunker which the allies fail to destroy during a bomb raid in 1944.
Instead they bombet civilian houses and a school.
I`m not sure of the numberqs of deaths, but it was much for an town the size of Bergen

Another greeting from Norway! Fredrikstad to be exact. Your granny rocks dude. but i have 1 question: Why do u read norwegian online newspaper, and do u speak norwegian? Are u half norwegian or sumpin??

  • At 10:28 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

First of all to Oda Elisabeth Tjønneland; Most Norwegians speak great English, actually. And you woulda known this if you had travelled some around the rest of the world.(And most Norwegians KNOW the difference between NO and KNOW, although pronounced the same way.)
The reason for this is as you probably know, we have English in school from we're around 7-9 yrs old, all depending on when and where you went to school.
Don't diss your own people, girl. That's just not cool.

Second... imagine when the gamers of today grow old and have grandchildren... we'll all kick our grandkids butt!! :)

  • At 10:30 AM, Blogger CtrlAltDelete said…

    StarFire-

I assumed that most Norwegians also speak English, Norway and Europe in general has a MUCH better education system than we do in The States.

Grandma would LOVE to go to Norway one of these days, we just can't afford the trip! A paypal donation type deal wouldn't be very cool of us; we don't want to make money from the site (hence the absence of advertisements.)

We love you Norway! Keep gaming!!!
