Old Grandma Hardcore

This blog is the chronicle of my experiences with Grandma, the video-game playing queen of her age-bracket and weight class. She will beat any PS2, XBox, GameCube, etc., console game put in front of her, just like she always has. These are her stories. She is absolutely real. She lives in Cleveland.

Video #1: Prince of Persia Is Up.

Grandma was hurting quite a bit today, but that didn't stop her from her daily routine. Luckily, I found a cheap web cam to show you guys what Grandma is like. She was pretty lax at first, but you know Grandma... Our first video is rated PG-13. I'll keep updating videos with highlights of Grandma's unholy war in the name of Battle as a regular feature if you like.

[WMV; 01:51; 6mb (sorry!)]

Thanks for the comments and e-mails everyone!!

P.S., Watch till the end for some classic under-the-breath GrandmaSpeak.

Sidenote: When one is using a webcam with which one is not familiar, a less-than-Adobe-Premier trial download of some video editing software, and a Windows Media encoder program that takes a while to compile frames; one can do many things whilst making the video web-ready. For example: smoke six cigarettes, defrost some bread, make a sandwich, watch Tivo'd Daily Show; catch up on current events; bathe your dog; brush your dog's teeth, brush your teeth, all while waiting for the file to be ready. Who knew? Also, if anyone wants to mirror some videos let me know, or if you want to put the video somewhere, ...feel free! Enjoy... -Tim

Man, grandma kicks some serious ass at games. i'd fear a competition with her any day. for a less stressful gaming experience check out God of War. much less stupid fucking combos (prince of persia) more fun to play.

Hey, your grandma seems badass. I miss mines a lot so you better treat yours right. Has she thought about Gamefly.com? Might be good for her to rent from there. Also, instead of buying strategy guides she should check out www.gamefaqs.com. It's got free walkthroughs/guides so it might be good for her fixed income and let her spend the money on more pain pills.

Maybe your grandma is better about reading instruction manuals than I am, but I found Prince of Persia much easier once I learned about the instant-absorb attack you can use on some enemies (vault over them, hit them in the air with your sword, attack with the dagger as you land). Sorry if this is old news; I had no idea.

Your grandma could totally kick my ass!

That is so neat that you've got something in common and are having such fun doing it.

Hey, grandma? I cussed up a storm at Prince of Persia as well--and it did kinda need a map. Carry on. :)

I was reading a FFXI forum, where I found the link to this blog. I think it is AWESOME. My grandma plays games online, and she curses a lot. I think it's cool that you have this blog for her. :D

Console games are THE way to go if you are hurting. I know they are marketed towards young folk but ultimately it will be the elderly who do the most gaming.

When you are confined to a bed or an easy chair it is really satisfying to make the little people on the screen run around.

Your grama is ahead of her time but not by much. In a few years when the baby boomers get old there will be a sudden market for games for their generation.

They will all want to relieve their glory days from the 1960s. Get ready for Woodstock the Game. Players can be the rock star of their choice, the task will be to take as many drugs as they can without ODing.

You know, you should make little posts with the dates that your grandmother starts a game, to let people get an idea of when she starts and finishes a game.

Also, there should be a special place in hell for whomever designed the damn turret things with the blades in PoP:SoT... those little bastards almost made me give up

    DUDE.

I love your grandma. I think I will become her in another 40 years. Until then, I will just bask in her glory.

And you should totally get her Bard's Tale. Tell her you can tip cows and snark at the narrator.

    It's fucking beautiful. ~sobs~

Great stuff man, I could only imagine what she would be saying if she played Counter-Strike: Source for the PC. There's so much BS in that game!

I'd love to see more videos of her cursing at the TV!

As far as mirroring goes, I'd recommend taking a look at Prodigem's Starter service. A one-time fee of $1 and you get space, bandwidth, and a BitTorrent tracker.
