Old Grandma Hardcore

This blog is the chronicle of my experiences with Grandma, the video-game playing queen of her age-bracket and weight class. She will beat any PS2, XBox, GameCube, etc., console game put in front of her, just like she always has. These are her stories. She is absolutely real. She lives in Cleveland.

Ask Grandma Hardcore!

It's Monday Night Grandma Blogging; and she's taking your questions. We took your hundreds of e-mails suggesting she get Conker: Live and Reloaded quite seriously, so I went out and bought the damn thing for her. You know what? You were right! She loves the furry little bastard! Post your questions in the comments section for Grandma and she'll pick a few choice ones to answer.

Game on!

The geometry of her gaming setup with the chair at an odd angle to the TV is probably 25% of her gaming troubles. Turn the TV to face her a bit more and cut the ol' gal some slack!

Wow grandma hardcore, you're my fucking hero. My question is, what game was the first one to really get you hooked? when did you first know it was for you?

Which game is better? Ninja Gaiden (talking the Xbox version here) or Devil May Cry 3? How do you feel about the difficulty level of each?

What draws you to video games so much? And what would you be doing if you hadn't have video games to pass the time?

Is grandma mostly a square rpg whore or is she into games like disgaea, lunar, and games like that?

has grandma played the suikoden series? and if she has, what did she think of them?

    Okay! Let's ask her.

Question #1: I get a lot of e-mails about this actually, here's your answer: "I have to put the chair where it is because my knee won't bend right now, at least not like it should. Usually I would sit on the bed or move a smaller chair in front of the tv, but it won't fit. You get used to the odd angle."

Question #2: "Christ....um...Legend of Zelda. Tim didn't get into it, but that's a good fucking game. Short, but good. I played before that, but that was my first real Gamer game."

Question #3: "Ninja Gaiden was much harder than Devil May Cry 3; but I'll be honest, I haven't finished Dante's Awakening yet. Got the game in February just before the knee surgery, and kind of fell out of it... still have it though. I don't think I could compare completely till I have, you know, Dante Must Die and all that..."

Question #4: "They're fun! You know, sometimes you can use it for escape or for stress relief, or sometimes you just get into a game because it has a good story. Sometimes it's just, you know- 'Shit! The graphics are awesome!' It depends on what you look for. I do have hobbies besides games, it's just that gaming is the main thing, it's not a hobby. I paint and do ceramics; Tim and I go to movies and stuff."

Question #5: "I've played Silver Star, Legend of Legaia, Baldur's Gate, shit I've played quite a few; it's just Square has so many great games- fucking... Kingdom Hearts, Every Final Fantasy, Star Ocean, that was Square, right? Wait- tell him I haven't been anybody's whore!"

--Keep asking, and she'll answer them, if not tonight, definitly in the morning (East coast time here) -T --

Here's for that last one that snuck in while we were typing:

"Oh hell yeah, I've played a TON of Suikoden. Christ, how many were in that series? It's Konami! I think I played the third one last. Hours and hours. Long games."

I noticed you move your controller cord a LOT. Why haven't your ungrateful grandkids popped for a nice wireless controller for you? It's the least they can do!

Oh, and you played Lunar Silver Star but no Eternal Blue? With your grasp of language, I thought "Blue" would be the Lunar you connected most with!

I love you, Grandma! You remind me of... me!

Which Silent Hill games have you played, and what is your favorite? I like the original the best, and got stuck in the fourth one (I think it's Silent Hill: The Room), but I'm still gonna go see the movie!

What is your most hated video game of all time?

I want to know who Grandma's favourite FFVII character is. :D Since it's my favourite game, too.

Hey Grandma Hardcore, first of all you rock harder than Lemmy and that's alot of rockin', second: Are you looking forward to the new Zelda game as much as I am? I plan on getting that game (And the Wind Waker disc with the new levels and graphics, if they don't try to rip us off, that comes for us pre-orderers) and locking myself in my house for a few days playing it.

What types of games does grandma play? Are there any genres she avoids?
Also, does she do any PC gaming, or does she stick to consoles?

    Great site!

So, what game are you most anticipating, Grandma?

Holy shit! Zelda was the real grabber for me too! I've got a tattoo of the triforce! Man OGH, If only I were 40 years older. *nudge wink* hehe.

    Alright, let's ask her...

(starting with the 1:25am question as #1) "Of course I've played Metal Gear! Not the third one, though, not yet."

Question #2: "Batteries. When you play for hours, I worry about battieries, otherwise I would have gotten myself one by now."

Question #3: "I liked the second one the best for some reason; like you I didn't finish the fourth. Too repetitive."

Question #4: "Well, how do you mean, do you mean most frustrating or just bad? There are quite a few bad games out there. I guess FFX-2 is up there, only because I didn't like, you know, where they took Final Fantasy."

Alright.... we should save some questions for later. She'll get back to these later today; we have some major news coming about Grandma; and it's all good. -T --

Hey Grandma! You rock! I hope to be like you when I'm a bit older.

Are you looking forward to Advent Children and all the other FFVII sequels?

  • At 9:02 AM, Blogger CtrlAltDelete said…

Okay, short quickies for the rest cause Grandma has to go:

-Yes, she's played GTA II and of course III but not Vice City or San Andreas, ...yet; more of only for stress relief purposes; i.e., cheat codes + sniper rifle + crowded street = a good way to calm down.

-She won't shut up about the new Zelda game. She's is genuinely excitied about it and probably will lock herself in her room for a few weeks to play it. I'll provide videos when she starts to crack.

-she plays all types. Civilization and Unreal Tournament among others on PC but she tends to stay away from online gaming.

-Final Fantasy XII, and her new babies will probably be King Kong and Condemned on one of the Next-Gen Consoles-

-She isn't the type to get a tattoo, but I'm guessing it would have something to do with "Down with The Umbrella Corporation" or a perhaps Garden SeeD tat. I won't even cover the second point :)

-YES! She is looking forward to seeing Vincent's half-covered un-smiling face on the FFVII followups; and Advent Children is certainly on her to-see list.

--Come back next week to ask again!!--

I noticed that Fatal Frame was mentioned. I was wondering if she liked the Fatal Frame series better than Silent Hill. I personally did.

Sure, My partnerRunescape Money and i remarked that almost every press electric outlet today actually leaves the Emerging trend in your lurch. Not to ever be a fanboy (effectively, too much of one particular) but would not that they a minimum of recognize that you have a big 3 as
cheap Diablo 3 gold opposed to a large two?
