Old Grandma Hardcore

This blog is the chronicle of my experiences with Grandma, the video-game playing queen of her age-bracket and weight class. She will beat any PS2, XBox, GameCube, etc., console game put in front of her, just like she always has. These are her stories. She is absolutely real. She lives in Cleveland.

Man, I remember Outlaw Golf... what is your favorite golf game, granny?

Geez, you still nervous about that?

Don't worry about it, MTV is cool enough, they won't make you look stupid.

So how are you fairing up to Tim in OG2? :)

Eh.. Forget about MTV, Nobody I know watches it anymore anyway. To much preteen BS for me anymore. It's ok if you like watching people get drunk, swear, fight, or just plain nudity.

As for an aask OGHC,... When are we going to see OGHC the Movie??? Eh just kidding. I have no real good questions this week, too much work on my hands.

Well Grandma and Tim take care, and have a fun night.

Hey, I was wondering if Grandma had ever seen this kickass cosplayer:

She agreed to wear her grandaughter's Rikku outfit for a day.

"I think my favorite golf game is a tie between Outlaw Golf (the first one) and the last Tiger Woods game I played. Hot Shots was okay, but it gets old fast, like Mario Golf."

    handoverfist-
"Hell yes. Pikachu. I hate Pokemon, but he's cute."

    anon-
"Tonight, he's kicking my ass, but I'll catch up on the back nine."

    gamer phfreak-
I like watching nudity, swearing, fighting and the like :) Actually Grandma laughed her ass off watching the movie Jackass, so that helps you determine her character. Grandma says "I'm not an actor! I don't think I could do a movie if we wanted to, which I don't."

    anne packrat-
"Ha!! That's awesome! I'll tell you she has more balls than I do to do something like that. We old farts can surprise you sometimes. And I like Rikku, too!"

i loved the early pictures of you grammy! very classy.

ever played shadow hearts (1 or 2)? there's always that game that deals with WWII, but what never WWI! with pro-wrestling vampires, oh!

  • At 10:31 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

I second shadow hearts, great series. Has she ever played Dark Cloud? Is she more an RPG gal or an action woman?

Video is the easiest thing in the world, just talk to the dude or chick talking to you and keep loose. After a while it becomes second nature.

    You'll do fine.

    Don't worry about it!

Oh, and tell us what it's like when your done :)

"I've played SH Covenant, but that's the only one. Most war games are FPS, but if you look, there are some great RPGs out there that cover the same sort of stuff. Only with demons."

    anon-
"Yes! I've played Dark Cloud as well as the second one- really well put together games, I think I still have the strategy guide for Dark Cloud 2. I love RPGs, but there are some great action games as well."

    sam-
"Tim is telling me the same thing, not to worry about it, it's no big deal, just be yourself, blah blah blah- it's still makes me nervous! Did you see the Obsessed show on cosplay? I don't think I can talk like those people, they had their shit together. I'd feel like a bumbling moron!"

  • At 11:58 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

hah! you'd be the most interesting person mtv's ever seen in a long whiles, besides, do you *really* want to be like those people obsessed with cosplay--REALLY?

Grandma doesn't want to do cosplay, I don't want to do cosplay; it's just not our deal- but I'm sure there are some fans out there that dig the costumes sometimes. The name of the show is Obsessed, but I don't imagine Grandma breaking down halfway through saying "Oh GOD, it IS an OBSESSION! What have I been doing with my LIFE??" all dramatic like. Gaming is what she does.

And you can't say MTV doesn't have interesting people on it, because Live 8 wasn't too long ago and that was the first time since the Pulse tour where I got to see Pink Floyd :) MTV isn't bad at all.

Grandma, what does MTV smell like? I've always been curious :)

    Hi OG!

I would be a nervous wreck if MTV was coming to interview me. Sheesh.

The build up will be much worse than the actual event though. Once they get there it will be over before you know it and probably fun too.

In any event this is the price you gotta pay for being a role model and an inspiration. :)

A little nervousness is good. I'm sure you'll be fabulous. Just be yourself, because that's what got you noticed in the first place. :-D

Wow, so I'm a freak for cosplaying? Wait, I knew that already.

Do we know when Grandma will be on yet?

"They really didn't smell like anything! They brought me cookies and I made them cookies, so we all smelled like cookies! What do you want?"

    mama lombax-
"You're right, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It wasn't that hard (but I still screwed up left and right! I played God of War for them, and it took me a bit to remember the combos. I was embarrassed, but they said not to worry about it) They were all really nice, actually! They were awesome!"

    anon-
"It's easy to say, you know- 'fuck MTV' when they're far away and you really have no opinion of them other than what you see on TV sometimes, but I have to say- these were professional folks that came out, they were cool. So I have to think that MTV is much much better than some give them credit. If they had been assholes when they came out today, or if they were acting all goofy and rehearsed and 'extreme' on purpose, I would have said the same thing- 'fuck mtv.' But they weren't like that at all! They were sincerely kind to Tim and I, and the rest of the family! I have a lot of respect for those guys."

    brinstar-
"Yeah, but it's tough! You got a huge light that's really hot reflecting off the ceiling, you got a sound guy, you got two cameras and a host, it's not like Tim and a little camcorder on a tripod, it's like ...performing! I can't be fake, I can just be myself, and it is hard for me to just play like there's no one there when there are so many people in one room! Tim says I'll get used to it, and I think I'm getting the hang of it more, to be honest. Sometimes I'm just searching for the right thing to say and I feel like... you know, finger up my ass sitting there like a dummy! I'm getting better, or so they tell me."

Sorry for the lack of post today, we've been REALLY busy here in Grandma's lair. More of the same stuff tomorrow, and then Grandma has so many games she wants to get started on for you guys. Also, Grandma is %100 correct, MTV was really great to us both when they came out, but more on that later. Now... I can sleep :)

    It's cool, it's a silly hobby I know it.

Hey, who won at Outlaw Golf? Has Grandma picked up We Love Katamari yet? Oh, and she may like Digital Devil Saga, a mature post apoclyptic RPG. The sequel just came out so hopefully the first will be cheap now.

I destroyed her :) I finished 16 under par she finished 2 under, but she was nervous at the time, and there was dirt in her eye, and she was hungry and tired at the same time, and other various excuses she tells me :)

We haven't picked up Digital Devil Saga yet, but she wants to. Josh lent her the one he had from Gamefly, and she seemed to like it but then it had to go back, so... what can you do? She was about to pick up We Love Katamari but now she has so many games she wants to play through it wouldn't be worth it yet.
