Old Grandma Hardcore

This blog is the chronicle of my experiences with Grandma, the video-game playing queen of her age-bracket and weight class. She will beat any PS2, XBox, GameCube, etc., console game put in front of her, just like she always has. These are her stories. She is absolutely real. She lives in Cleveland.

Video #14 - Grandma Plays Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Grandma couldn't wait any longer so she rented a copy until she can afford one of her own. The cruel way XBox Live distributes achievement points by personal level within Guilds (Associate, Apprentice, Novice, Journeyman, etc.,..) and arena fighting ensures this will be a long-ass haul for Grandma.

We have a lot to talk about this week; Grandma's back has been killing her recently and the somewhat embarrassing cause shifted diagnosis from "its all in your head" directly to "Jesus CHRIST how did we not see that on the MRI last time?!" She finally destroyed Grandia III on the PS2, and Driver 4 for the XBox (early-build press-release debug-kit version... don't WE feel important...) is certainly a topic of conversation around here, not to mention Brain Age, upcoming Zelda and Metroid Prime releases for the DS and Kingdom Hearts II and HOLY FUCKING SHIT- GOD OF WAR 2!!! It's the end of March, and Grandma's dream vacation is only a little more than a month away. Grandma must preserve good video game juju before the trip. All this news and more can all be yours for the easy to remember one time payment of ...waiting six hours or so. The flu does not type itself away it seems.

The big post is coming, along with all the answers to last weeks questions posted in the comments section and to our e-mail inbox.

Game on!

Grandma has a pretty white kitty! I hope he (she?) doesn't spend too much more time in jail! :) And I don't have to worry about achievements or whatever, because I have the PC version! Very very shiny and pretty and moddable too! Woo hoo! :)

I noticed Grandma online playing Oblivion a few hours ago. I also noticed that in 3/4 hours, she got further than I did in 8.... I guess that why we called her "Hardcore".

Note to 360 owners: Oblivion is a damn cool game. It takes awhile to settle into but its well worth the wait.

NOTE TO TIM: If Grandma plans the buy the game, I would gladly donate via PayPal towards the game. (How much do games in the States cost? Over here in "jolly-old-England" they're between £40 and £50 for 360 titles. That works out at around $70 - $88 USD according to XE.com)

Hot Damn, I want this game. And thanks for the heads up about all the jail-going-too crap.

I totally hate jail. Except in monopoly, when someone has like, a million houses and hotels. The jail keeps me from giving them all my goddamned money.

Elder Scrolls 4 is THE reason I want to get an XBox 360. Being poor is THE reason I can't yet. *sigh*

game on! my g/f just got her xbox early in the month and just picked up Elderscrolls IV: Oblivion last week. She started playing it this last weekend. ITS SO FRIGGIN COOL!

(im finally getting to play Elderscrolls III: Morrowind....cause she finished it a little bit ago.) LOL

Im totally jacked that grandma is getting a chance to play Oblivion.... its worth a buy when she gets around to it.

So is Morrowind (think you can get it for $20 or so now...) and make sure you get the Game of the Year edition so you also get the Tribunal and Bloodmoon expansion packs built in.

Oh yeah.... if having a hard time finding it...check Amazon....you can get the guide there for like $12 i think too. (its a thick bastard too....id recommend it, handy for the maps...)

i picked morrowing up a few months ago for about 10 bucks used. it's really cool, but i haven't really gotten into it yet. i've been doing area 51 which i thought totally sucked arse at first, but now that i've gotten into it it's fun. even the online gameplay.

i really want to get my 360 so i can play oblivion though. i'm really looking forward to the game. keep the updates coming grams!

Curses, foiled again! I was going to pick up a 360 on the release date, and would've been playing Oblivion by now, except that I was a student, and hence ran out of money far to soon. Gah.

However, there is a reason I'm typing. I'd like to say that Granny... you rock. Hard. As the rest, I hope that you feel better soon, I suggest high caffine drinks, and if I ever grow up, I want to be just like you.

    Only, male...

    Peace!

    Hey Grandma!

Just wanted to let you know that your not the only grandma that plays Oblivion. My grandma plays it on the 360 too and i will go to her house and get on her character and ill go around killing everyone and she starts freaking out till i go back to the previous save she didn't notice I made.

    you should add her gamertag.

I would tell you but i don't want other random people to start adding her.

playing Oblivion a few hours in the past. Furthermore, i noticed that inside 3/4 severalbuy D3 items hours, she obtained more than I have done within Seven.... Perhaps that the reason why weBuy GW2 Gold known as her "Hardcore".
